Young Love

Love is a strange and a wonderful thing
A magical world of its own
Not easily understood by all
For just to young lover's it's known.

To those on the outside and just looking in
It's hard to believe sometimes
The things that they do
The way that they act
Just doesn't make reason or rhyme.

You've watched them saying goodnight at the gate
While they're getting drenched with rain
They don't say goodnight, they don't know they're wet
It's really quite hard to explain.

They don't hear the chime of a clock anymore
They don't see the watch on their wrist
They're up in the clouds, adrift and afloat
With the dew drops, the moonglow and mist.

He tells her that he can see stars in her eyes
That he can hear bells in his head
But they that don't easily understand
Think that it's rocks instead.

And so they decide to get married
The biggest step in one's life
And they say, down the road let come what may
They just want to be husband and wife!

And she has so many luxuries at home
Her family and friends love her so
She has all of the comforts in life that she needs
And yet she decides to go

And live in a small little crowded nook
It's something they can't understand
Scrimping and cleaning and going without
Just for the love of one man?

It's a strange and a wonderful thing
And he, leaving his mother's good cooking
Now he'll chew on tough meat, wash down her burned eggs
And tell her it's really delicious.

It's a strange and a wonderful thing

But someday their feet will come down and touch earth
And they'll wander through shadow and pain
Then their hands will clasp all the tighter
As their hearts share each other's pain.

When the stars in her eyes are dimming
And he no longer hears bells in his head
But he's adding some pounds to his middle
And losing his hair instead ...

They'll ponder, in awe and amazement,
And wonder how it can be
That they're love has grown deeper than ever
It's life's sweetest mystery.

Oh - may they always hold part of the magic of now,
Keep it close through their everyday life
For the joys that are lasting - eternal -
Belong to a man and his wife.

No words - no phrase can express it
The completeness to life it will bring
No one can measure the power of love
It's a strange and a wonderful thing!
