A Glorious Organization

It happened in the early spring of eighteen forty-two
It's marvelous beginning came in the city of Nauvoo
The earth was eager to reveal its beauty from the sod
The Prophet too was eager to reveal a plan from God.

This sacred meeting was arranged for Thursday afternoon
To be held above his red brick store in that famed historic room
The Prophet Joseph clothed in power and authority from above
Spoke to the eighteen ladies who had gathered there in love.

He united them together for a noble cause indeed
To give their service freely to those who were in need
To nurse the sick and feed the poop or soothe a heart that's torn
To lift a soul in deep despair and comfort those who mourn.

To study, work and search for truth, improve from day to day
That they may help another to find the better way.
Through inspiration of the Lord these sisters saw the view
Of a worthy society and the good that if would do.

The Prophet Joseph visualized this work as it would grow
And multiply in warmth and love 'til it touched all -- and so
A glorious organization had now received its birth
From a plan designed in Heaven to be carried out on earth!
